Dana Bilger, LPC, ACS

My education brought me down to Virginia Beach from New Jersey as I followed my lifelong dream to work in mental health. After obtaining my master’s degree in mental health counseling from Old Dominion University I gained experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor providing individual, family, couples and group therapy in a variety of settings. While a lead therapist in a residential facility, I worked with adolescents and their families to address serious mental health issues and provide healthier coping skills while developing a more positive family dynamic. More recently I served as a clinical supervisor and the director of a small outpatient program treating primarily adults experiencing mood disorders (depression, anxiety, Bipolar disorder) trauma, and borderline personality disorder.

My clinical approach stems from three evidenced-based theories: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT.) As your therapist I can provide support, help you develop problem-solving skills, and collaborate to find effective coping strategies. Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. I like to describe my role in your therapy journey as the mirror to help you look at yourself more closely and illuminate the parts of yourself that may have overlooked or are hard to spot on your own.

During my free time I can be found sitting outside in a sunny spot reading, at the beach, taking a dance fitness class, or spending time with my family including our golden retriever, Bunny!
